• Ecstatic Walking

    Saturday, July 27 @ 2:30 — 4:30pm

Join Amanda Acorn in this two-part, outdoor/indoor workshop for attuning to the senses.

We'll start by the water with a “silent disco”-style group walk. Using our own headphones and personal devices, we’ll tune into Amanda’s soundwalk; a 40-minute guided audio recording developed as part of her MA research project at York University. The soundwalk uses music and sensory embodiment prompts to deepen our awareness of and connection between body, self and earth.

The walk will end back at the studio where we will ditch the headphones and deepen our collective listening experience in a 60-minute music-driven MOVE (groove) class. Exploring the body’s responsiveness and aliveness heightened by the guided soundwalk, expect an upbeat dance and somatic-movement-based class that builds in intensity with opportunities for energetic release: shifting our mental state or providing clarity in a previously stuck area.

We’ll end with a grounding practice to integrate the work and enjoy a refreshing beverage by Geez Louise before continuing our afternoons into the summer sun.

The soundwalk was developed through Amanda’s choreographic research and MA in Interdisciplinary Studies, which combined phenomenology, place-based dance and feminist ecology. Her teaching in Pilates and somatic movement, are informed by her practice as a dance artist and ongoing studies in Gestalt psychotherapy.
